Backlog of Thrifting

First, Hello new followers :D

and old :D

I am now posting my backlog of thrifted things I've found in the past few weeks (since my last thrifting post)--though some things are omitted, since I've already worn them/have photos ready to go :)

1. Midi length floral skirt

The colors are pastel-y and springlike, plus I can hike it up to my armpits and belt it like a dress. I'm so obsessed with midi-skirts right now. So comfy. I can't wait until I can start wearing them with sandals. ($5.00 at thrift store)

2. Red Rain Jacket

So, it is definitely getting away from coat/jacket weather, but this one was just so cute. Previously, all of my coats were neutral colors and I thought this would be perfect for brightening up a rainy, disgusting day. Sarah originally found it, but the arms were too tight. So I snatched it up :) ($12.99 at Goodwill)

3. Kimchi Blue Dress

It was adorable and fit me perfectly. I picked it off the rack because I liked it and then realized it was from Urban Outfitters. score. I couldn't really pass it up after trying it on, because it fit me perfect, is in perfect shape and I love the rich deep blues--I am re-obsessed with blue right now, which as a little girl, used to be my favorite color. ($6.99 at Goodwill)

4. Gorgeous collared off-white button up

You can't really have enough plain white button up shirts. I love ones with character. I love that I can wear this to work and still somehow communicate my love for vintage and pretty things. It sure beats a crinkly stark-white button up from Target or something similar. ($4.99 from Goodwill)

5. Peter Pan Collared Plaid Button up

I probably won't be able to wear it for a while, since it's long sleeved, but I love the colors/collar/cut. I can see myself wearing it under jumper-like dresses in the fall. ($5.99 at Goodwill)

6. Crocheted Poncho thing

I honestly never thought I would ever wear a poncho. I even made fun of my mom for liking/buying them. But now I'm sucked in. It's a little scary for me, but I love the crocheted flowers. I think this is a perfect little extra layer of warmth for spring. ($6.00 at thrift store)

7. Detachable Collar

I've been looking for one of these ever since Beatrice posted about them. They're such a perfect way to update an otherwise boring dress. I find this one rather pretty. I'm not sure which way is front--I plan on mixing it up. I've since washed and ironed it. Probably should have retaken photos, but oh well. Best thing? the price. ($2.00 at thrift store)

Aaaah. I am so behind blogging-wise. I've mentioned before that I'm still trying to find the balance between life, school and blogging. I know I have an addictive personality, so my biggest fear is letting this take over my life and building it up to be more of an obligation than something I want to do. How often do you post/how do you keep everything balanced?

Anyhow, the internet was being finicky and I wasn't able to post anyway. I probably could have found some wifi somewhere, but I was much happier to curl up in a blanket and watch movies with my roommate every single night this weekend.

Happy Monday.

Rainy Day Thrifting

As I mentioned in my last post, it rained buckets on Friday. But it's my day off--so I basically try to shove a whole weekend into that day (since I work all through the weekend). So, even though it was pouring, I was not going to give up on the idea of thrifting. And good thing too, because I found some lovely things. Things I really really really love.

(This is a mannequin my coworker/roommate and I stole from work. It was fun/amusing carrying it home. We've been re-dressing it up every once in a while. And don't worry, it's totally legit--our manager doesn't care one bit that we took it)

1. White cropped sweater:

I've been looking for more of these, since they have the amazing ability to completely transform dresses into skirts. I adore the little detailing--from the little tiny holes to the slightly scalloped collar/cuffs. Such a perfect basic piece. $5.00 at Goodwill.

2. Acrylic / Mohair / Wool blend sweater thing:

I was looking for this exactly. I wanted a heavier sweater to act as a transition jacket once the weather starts to get nicer. It is so comfy. I can see myself wearing it with dresses, jeans, at home, belted or loose. The color is perfect, the fit is perfect & according to the tag, it was made in Italy? Yeah, whatever. $7.99 at Goodwill.

3. yellow/blue patterned top:

I suck at taking these sorts of pictures. I'll get better at some point! That's why you don't get a full photo. But I think that's okay, since the pattern is what's charming anyhow. And the little metal buttons. $5.00 at Goodwill.

4. white/leather belt:

I actually bought this one week ago, when I was thrifting with another of my friends, but it was thrifted and so belongs in this post. It'll be perfect for over flowy summer dresses. $2.00 at William Temple thrift store

And, I bought red lipstick. In real life, this one is a little too pink for my taste. I want a deeper red. What are your favorite, go-to lipsticks? I'm actually really really new to makeup. All through high school, I made a fuss and absolutely refused to wear it. But I'm slowly wanting to play a little, grow up a little. (HA. I haven't taken a photobooth picture in ages)

Lastly, I was awarded that Kreativ blogger award by Jane but am choosing not to do it, since I did a really similar meme about a week ago. But I am incredibly happy and thankful that she listed me.

California Recap + Thrifted Love

To be honest, I didn't really take too many pictures. Mostly on account of forgetting to pack my camera battery :( Though I'm not sure how much of an excuse that would have been, because when I spend time with Robert, most of my focus is with us. We've been long distance for almost three years now; each moment spent is counted and precious. There's so many more things I meant to take pictures of, but didn't.

He plays classical guitar. I learned to play Ode to Joy & It's a Small World. I felt so silly playing such childish songs. But I guess you've got to start somewhere. I wanted to be involved in music when I was young, but couldn't because I did gymnastics every single weekday after school--even left school every day.

We go to the pier every time I visit. It's the romantic couple thing to do in Ventura.

Cafe 126. Amazing greasy diner food.

On one of the days it rained. It rained a lot. Like, crazy crazy rain. I wore a recently thrifted, comfy pink and white sweater. We drove up to Ojai, a silly little town close to Ventura, went to a little coffee shop, ate at a cafe and thrifted that day. Perfect outfit for that.

pretty little five minute "hike" we took on my last day.

And now, for two of my favorite things I acquired thrifting. A jewelry box, which was something I set out looking for. It was the perfect size, in excellent condition, and only five dollars. I bought way too much clothing to post up right now. Maybe later. Or maybe you'll just see it all in outfit posts.

triprecap_8

oh, and when you open the top, the rest of the drawers come open too.

and... I am using this cup this very moment to drink my tea. I love all the little illustrations.

I'm a bit sad to be back home now. But I'm looking forward to Spring term, re-finding myself after selling my soul to Architecture, and actually spending time with friends & family. And Robert is done with school in three months. He'll be home in Portland for good then. I already consider us having made it past the last three months of long distance. I can't see anything that could break us now.

freedom from studio guilt!

This weekend was the first time in a long time that I could go home to my parents house, shop with my mom and exist without feeling guilty about not being in studio. I can't imagine how it'll feel on Wednesday, when I am completely done with Spring term. It's just the annoying tedious things I have left to do now.

Anyways, went thrifting with my mom on Saturday. It seems that is becoming a bit of a trend, which I don't mind. She rolls her eyes at some of the things I like, but I am perfectly okay with that. I found some treasures... though I wasn't so lucky clothing-wise. I was looking for skirts and dresses, but I am perfectly happy with the things I did find.

Trotters brown woven loafers: $6.00
Square patterned square scarf: $.50
Heart patterned square scarf: $1.99
Baby blue clutch/purse (it looks like an envelope!): $3.00

I realize now, that I also bought a belt but forgot to photograph it. I'm sure that it will show up in my outfit at some point though, so I shall just be lazy. Also notice, I found exactly what I was looking for! As I mentioned in this post. So comfy and easy to wear!

mar14_2

I also found it cute that my mom still has this mushroom in her car. I bought it for her probably five or six years ago.

Last but not least, I dyed my hair on a complete whim. My coworker/roommate and I decided to do it in the time span of our Sunday work shift together. We tried a Japanese brand hair dye called Palty. Previously, as can be seen in my posts, I had the classic asian hair: dark dark dark brown, to the point where it's basically black. The dye lightened it a bit, since it has a smidge of bleach in it and added some red undertones. It's a bit more noticeable in real life. I had a good experience and am happy with the result.

Hope you all had a productive and relaxing weekend too!
